How to have Motivation and keep Momentum to be Successful

My Experience

I will be dicussing how I have developed motivation and how I have managed to keep that motivation to propel my career forwards in a short period of time. You will have a peak into my journey, as a manager at 21 what I am doing in my life.

How it started was when I had a shift in my mindset along with skills that I built up over the last few years. I used to be lazy and do the bare minimum at school because I could get the grades I wanted rather than pushing myself. I am not the first and definitely not the last person to do this. I am sure my people in my life were concerned that I would never change and I probably thought the same in my mind a few years ago.

This continued to follow me for quite a long time in my life, however, the turning point if I had to put a time stamp on it, would be around June 2022. Something switched in my mind and I felt compelled to push myself more, strive to self improve and chase success. For a while I did not know what it was that flicked that switch. But on reflection I now identified it was when I had goals that I set. It gave me a vision to work towards and made me accountable for myself as no one else was going to take me there. I wanted to push myself to become a team leader for the Logistics business I work for. I put myself forwards for helping in projects for the business, made it my focus to learn the ins and outs of the operation and the digital knowledge I needed to become an effective member of the team. This ultimately led to my promotion in October to team leader.

That moment of being promoting only added fuel to my mindset of being driven and motivated. I have continued over the last few months to push myself, performing to meet KPIs for the business as a team leader. On top of that Presenting in front of 50+ business professionals about the site and the benefits it provides. My manager has recognised my hard work and attitude. As a result as soon as a first line manager position opens they want me taking it.

This is still early stages for my journey building my career but the more you put in, the more you get out. I am sure everyone has read or heard this before, but it really is that simple. People recognise those who put in the effort and they will support them to succeed in a lot of cases. If you prove you are someone who can be relied on, you will be given opportunities. Another motivating factor is also seeing that paycheck rise, it is always a nice bonus to keepp that motivation going, especially if you have a goal to work towards. Mine is to purchase a home and I am in the process of acquiring a mortgage to begin fulfilling this target.

All the skills I have gained in such a small time is unmatched to sitting in a classroom learning theories. To be jumping from team leader to First Line Manager in 3 months just shows the only thing stopping you is yourself. Experience will always be more valuable than grades in a class.

I hope to continue to talk about my journey in the future and I hope this inspires at least one person to stop playing games or whatever else they are doing and start to take control of their own life.
